Thank you for your generous offer of time and support! After studying the sign-up sheets I tried to match the time you had available with our classroom schedule. If your scheduled time in the classroom does not fit your personal schedule, please write me an email or a note. I will do my best to fit you in when it works for you. Thanks for your patience!
I want to help your volunteer experience get off to a great start! First, and foremost, enjoy your time with the children. Take time to get to know the children and allow the children to enjoy you. However everyone is expected to follow the class rules! During your time as a classroom volunteer you may be asked to do many different jobs.
This year with our new Reading Workshop, I will be playing with jobs for volunteers. I would love your feedback as you work in the classroom.
Some days will be filled with structured activities while others may be less specific. Whatever the case please know that you are a great help! Having another pair of hands and ears around can help assure that all children are successful with the task at hand. Either Pam or I will try to give you directions as soon as we can when you arrive. Look for the volunteer cubbies in the hallway outside our room. You can leave your coat, etc there.
As you arrive in the classroom we will probably be eating snack or finishing morning recess. The class will greet you when it fits in and I hope you will greet the class. Then Mrs. Lombardi or I will walk you through your center activity for the morning. When children complete morning meeting your child may come say hi to you!
Please talk to your child about the importance of doing his/her work while you are helping in the classroom. It’s always exciting to see mom or dad but it’s also important to stay focused. I tell the children that their parents are welcome to come help as long as the children are able to keep learning and to say a happy goodbye when it is time for you to leave.
I want to stress the importance of confidentiality surrounding all that happens in the classroom. Whether you are working one on one with students, copying materials in the office or preparing materials for a lesson, always keep in mind that the children’s progress is strictly confidential. It is important that you share your concerns with me verbally or in writing so that I can address any concern in the most appropriate way possible.
Please sign in on the volunteer list in the office each time you come in. You will be required to get a name tag before coming down to the classroom.
Please look at the volunteer calendar on the web page. Your name will be written on your volunteer days. Please look carefully and note it on your family calendar to avoid too many volunteers coming all at once or none at all. I look forward to seeing you!!
If you know that you can’t make it in to volunteer please call or send an email as soon as possible. It really helps to have as much time as possible to adjust the plans for the day so everything goes smoothly.
Finally, if you need to change your volunteer commitment at any time just let me know! I appreciate any time you can share with us!
